Singapore

Eugene and I took the opportunity to be tourists on this visit. We were both impressed by the developments that are taking place in Singapore. Having lived in the US for 4.5 years now, we cannot help but compare the way things are in both places. There is no comparison when it comes to the pace, quality and level of infrastructural developments in Singapore.  The government's ability to spend well, is obviously, key.  Everything from the public libraries to the public transportation are top quality in comparison to those in the US.  We were truly amazed.

The way I look at it, this stark contrast is a wake up call to the developed world, who has slid into complacency for too long.  Much as Eugene and I love living in the US, we have also grown to recognize many serious problems that are deeply problematic for the future of this country. Unless the US can reinvent itself, the future does not look bright.  Many difficult long term solutions are required.

American friends - Here are some pictures to entice you to come with us next time we visit Singapore!

Swinging chandeliers in the museum. Very pretty effect.

Southen ridges walk - was an impressive walk on a series of connecting bridges through forests and buildings. It was an ingenious work by the architects!
