Fallingwater

Eugene and I made a trip to visit Fallingwater over Labor Day weekend. Fallingwater was a home designed by well known architect Frank Lloyd-Wright, and was one of his more well known work. Fallingwater was the home of Edgar Kaufman and his family from 1935-1963.

It was an experience touring Fallingwater and certainly the pictures I have seen and have taken here cannot quite explain the beauty of the design. Fallingwater gives one a sense of being in the outdoors and a home that was very much built into its natural environment-- from the sounds to the views. Fallingwater was built onItalic two waterfalls and you can hear the sound of the waterfalls from every room in the house. Llyod-Wright also used the stone boulders that were there as part of the base of the house. He uses shapes and textures throughout the house to create interesting spaces that evoke your senses. Fallingwater is as much an architectural feat as it was an engineering acomplishment, that many had doubted could be done.

Natural slate, red steel rods, beige concrete and glass were the 4 basic materials used throughout the house.
